It was tough trying to decide which part of Africa was best to do my next safari, I had done my first safari in Mauritius a few months earlier, but I was told that the best and more popular ones were in East Africa, and it just happened that Kenya was set up nicely and Nairobi National Park was only a short taxi ride away from the Nairobi International Airport.

I located a taxi at the airport and spent most of the day with him.The taxi at the airport took me to the main entrance and we negotiated a price of 180 USD, maybe a bit expensive now looking back, and he took me around the entire park, which took about 2 hours in total and also took me to my hotel later in the day. The roads were dusty and wet due to a storm that had taken place early that morning. There were a couple of different ways to explore the entire park, for example, by jeep or bus, but those trips needed to be booked in advance and usually required a minimum set of people, it’s impossible to walk around the park without a mode of transportation due to safety.

The initial 30 mins was not so eventful, there weren’t many animals to see, and it was only when we got deeper into the park we began to see a whole lot more. The following hour was the most rewarding, with a wide variety or animals, giraffes, hippos, and zebras. It’s possible to leave the car on a number of occasions, not recommended, because of the dangers involved, but there are a few designated areas where it’s possible to get up close to the giraffes and take a couple of photos. It was definitely one of the best things that I had done so far in Africa (2024) and it only gave me the taste to go and try to locate another safari on the next trip, perhaps in West Africa next time or wherever is best recommended.

The distance to the city was only about 30 mins in a taxi and I stayed at the City Hotel on Haile Selassie Avenue, close to a couple of really nice supermarkets and restaurants. Doing the safari made the Kenya trip complete and worth doing the trip.
