Angola was another country that I was eager to visit during summer 2024, recently, they changed the visa requirements, and now free Visa on Arrival is available for EU passports, which simplified the trip a lot. I was almost instantly impressed with the cosmopolitan skyline in Luanda and soon realized, after a trip to the nearest supermarket, that prices are high, a lot higher than some of the other spots that I’d previously visited in Africa.

I had an extra few days in Angola when compared to other countries, it turned out that there was a much cheaper flight available to Sao Tome and Principe, a small islands nation, if I stayed for a few extra days, so I decided to take a trip outside of Luanda and went to Miradouro da lua, one of the most impressive things that I’d seen in a while. It honestly looked like a different planet, with multiple different viewing areas to take pictures and videos, also restaurants and coffee shops around the area. It was a fun day out!

I spent the remaining few days back in Luanda, and it reminded me a lot of Maputo in Mozambique, another former Portuguese territory, especially the food, with a lot of amazing selections available.
My favourite area to visit was the Mausoleum of Agostinho Neto. I noticed the monument from way back in the city and didn’t realize that it was next to the national museum. I then walked back to the main city, walked along the corniche, stopped off quite a few times at the famous landmarks, and then took it easy for the remainder of the trip.

Angola is a really nice place. Now, with the Visa on Arrival service, and the construction of a brand new airport, it’s only a matter of time before Luanda becomes as popular as some of the other major cities in Africa, for example Nairobi, Abbis Ababa or Cairo.
