THINGS TO DO IN NEW YORK CITY

New York is one of favourite cities anywhere in the world and my favourite city in North America. I love how vibrant the city is and the amazing selection of food on almost every street corner. The city has a population of over 8 million people and it’s the biggest city in the USA. There are numerous airports in and around New York City, for example, JFK Airport, LaGuardia and Newark Liberty International and daily buses from the nearby major cities, for example, Boston, Baltimore and Washington DC.

Here are my favourite places to visit in New York City

Right in the heart of Times Square

Times Square- Times Square is a must-visit location with all of the shining lights and advertisements, the central area is located on 42nd Street and it’s a lot of fun. There are so many ways to spend the day and night, for example, taking a trip to Broadway and catching a performance, get a picture with some of the costumed people, or just watch thousands pass by from street to street, while seated on the famous red steps, above the ticket office for the Broadway shows.

The Statue of Liberty is world famous

Statue of Liberty- The Statue of Liberty is located on Liberty Island and ferries to and from are frequent from Battery Park in Lower Manhattan. You can also get one of the best views of Lower Manhattan from Liberty Island and the skyscrapers are in abundance. I’d recommend leaving early in the morning in order to avoid the crazy crowds of people and to get a couple of good-picture opportunities.

Some of the views from the top of the Empire State Building

The Empire State Building- One of the most recognized buildings in the world and once the tallest building in the world. You can take the elevator all the way up to the 84th floor and some of the views are amazing from each direction. It’s also possible to go above the 84th floor, but there’s an extra fee.

Chinatown- It’s a fun place to walk around and sample amazing Chinese food throughout the entire region, the Canal Street metro station is the main metro stop. It’s also a great place to get some ideal gifts for a much cheaper price when compared to Times Square or the surrounding areas and the place is always full of bargains.
Hop On + Hop Off tour- The best way to take in some of the views from all over the city and it’s easily the best way to get around if you are restricted for time or just want to get an overall feel for the city. Buses are frequent and stop off at all of the popular locations in Manhattan.
Central Park – Easily needs a full day out. The park is so big and so many things to do and see, some amazing lakes, a zoo, amusement attractions, recreational areas, famous statues and so on. Most of the famous movies have a couple of scenes in Central Park, so most of the areas always look familiar. There are also quite a few areas to play sports, for example, baseball, which is one of the most played sports in the US.

A lot of areas to play baseball and other sports all around the park
